Autumn Equinox, also known as Mabon, heralds a time when the darkness starts to stretch out over the daily canvas of our lives, inviting us within, inviting us deeper into the wildness of our soul that can only be accessed in the moonlight.
During this sacred portal of one season shifting into another, we are given the opportunity to give thanks for the abundance in our lives and celebrate. No matter how big or small, there is always something to be thankful for.
Some ways you can celebrate are:
~ Have fun picking apples and other late summer fruits/veggies - or - go to a local farmers market and support them by buying local, fresh, seasonal produce
~ Have a harvest celebration meal with friends and family
~ Write down a list of the gratitude you have for blessings in your life
~ While preparing food and before eating, give thanks to the earth, sun, and all the people involved in growing and getting your food to you
~ Donate to a food drive
~ Set up an altar, to honor and give thanks to the earth
~ Spend time outdoors
~ Clean, clear, and declutter your home in preparation for a new season
Mabon is also about balance. Today, there will be equal light and darkness, acting as a celestial reminder to look at where we can invite more balance into our lives. Why not reflect on the various areas of your life, such as body, mind, spirit, career, family, etc. and see how you can bring more nourishment and vitality there? You can do this through journaling, conversation, or even tarot and oracle readings.
Spiritually, you may want to celebrate Mabon with a meditation, or choosing to commune with and study the dark goddess, or crone. The story of Demeter and Persephone is a great place to start.
However you spend your Mabon, may you be blessed, nourished, and filled with joy!
